Our class had fun teaching friends how to play some of their favorite games from home. Your children were excellent teachers. I learned three new games, myself! :)
As part of our non-fiction reading and writing unit, we have started to learn about the Iditarod race this week. Students picked a musher to read and write a report about this morning. Some students chose to work with partners, and others chose to work solo. We will use our research notes from today to make posters about our mushers for our hallway tomorrow!
We had a great time together on the tubing hill yesterday! At the end of the day, our class said it was the "best Valentine's Day ever". I hope you enjoy the pictures I was able to snap. Thanks so much for sending your children with warm gear and a big lunch to keep them going! We learned about forming contractions this morning. Students worked in pairs to "surgically remove" letters from the second word in each set and used a band-aid to "repair" the word into a new contraction. We had lots of giggles!
Our goal after the new year in writing was to revisit "opinion" writing. Today, we wrote our opinions on the best pets, and practiced helping each other edit. They did wonderfully!
For Homecoming Week next week, we encourage students to participate in our daily festivities! Here is our daily schedule for next week:
MONDAY - Crazy Sock Day TUESDAY - Inside Out Day (wear your clothes inside out!) WEDNESDAY - Patriotic Day (red/white/blue) THURSDAY - Pajama Day FRIDAY - Panther Day (green/black/panther gear) This week, we learned how to work on revising writing using a "writing buddy"! Writing buddies practiced listening to their partner's story, giving a compliment, helping with what we call "easy corrections" (capitalization, punctuation, neatness, sight words, etc.), and then giving a suggestion for added detail to help "spice up" stories. They loved it! We will continue to work with writing buddies once every week or so.
