Today, we reviewed what "Scientists" do! 1. Ask a question, or describe a problem "How does ___ work?" ... "How can I ___?" 2. Make a Hypothesis "I think that ___." 3. Experiment! Make a plan to test your hypothesis... 4. Results "NOW I know ___." I showed the class a roll of Mentos and a bottle of Diet Coke, and asked them to think like scientists. First, we practiced stating our hypotheses like real scientists ("I think that...") as a class. Then, we wrote our predictions down. We went outside for step 3, the experiment! We came back in to write the results. Here are some pictures below. I wasn't able to get a good picture of the explosion, as I was scooting out of the way, but perhaps you could try this experiment at home (or a new experiment) and talk to your child about making a hypothesis first. :)

Below is the sign-up link for our class Halloween Party on Monday, Oct. 31st from 2:10-3:10. If you cannot attend but would like to donate a supply for one of our 5 stations, that would be much appreciated! I am trying to keep our party healthy and hands-on. :)
Please let me know if you have any questions or if you have trouble with the sign-up link and want me to put you down for something! Thanks! docs.google.com/document/d/1iO7UgGKFC11OL8UNnrZCFZLt9H-O5SNTMK54HeHsH7g/edit |
